In 2022, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) via the National Construction Code (NCC) introduced a new maximum lead content limit requirement of 0.25% (weighted average), to be applied to all DZR brass plumbing products used for potable (drinking) water, to come into effect on the 1st of September 2025.

DZR brass products that don’t meet this requirement commencing on the 1st of September 2025 will not be classified as lead-free and therefore will not be acceptable to be installed in a household water system or plumbing system used for consumer drinking water.

DZR brass valves and fittings used in plumbing applications that come into contact with drinking water will still need to be watermark license certified as per current regulations when the new NCC lead-free requirement comes into effect. Whilst the current DZR brass watermark certified plumbing products are considered safe, health practitioners have identified that reducing the acceptable lead requirement can only be a positive for people’s health moving forward, which falls in line with steps made by other countries, including America and Canada.

EVF’s full range of DZR brass watermark tested/certified valves and fittings threaded BSP will be fully transitioned to the NCC’s lead free requirement by the 1st of September 2025. Our product codes will remain unchanged.
